State to recognize Keihin CST with award Thursday

Edgecombe health stats spiral down
In 2011, there were 12,164 premature deaths in Edgecombe County, according to a 2012 report compiled by County Health Rankings & Roadmaps. In the same report, it was noted that 1,167 county citizens were treated for a sexually transmitted infection. In the same report, North Carolina averaged 445 and the national benchmark was 84.

Civitas Poll: Parents primed for school reform

Tarboro names new police chief
Tarboro officials have selected Damon Williams to serve as the town’s next police chief, Town Manager M. Alan Thornton confirmed Thursday. Williams currently serves as police chief in Maxton, a small town in Southern North Carolina.

Gerelene Walker: ‘I’ve been through a lot worse’
“I’ve been through a lot worse,” explained Gerelene Walker as she discussed a decision by the North Carolina State Board of Certified Public Account Examiners that resulted in a two-year suspension of her CPA license. “My husband died at age 43 and I raised a 6-year-old and a 12-year-old.
