New York grand jury targets painkiller abuse epidemic
Anyone involved in a car accident involving an injury or death would be subject to mandatory blood and alcohol testing in New York under a proposal being offered by a Long Island grand jury that investigated a prescription painkiller epidemic.

NY grand jury targets painkiller abuse epidemic
HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (AP) — A Long Island grand jury examining ways to combat prescription painkiller abuse offered a wide range of recommendations Thursday, including legislation to require blood and alcohol testing in New York for drivers involved in car accidents that kill or injure another person.

Paul Fussell, 88, author and Penn professor emeritus
Paul Fussell, 88, an acclaimed author of books on war, poetry, and class, and a professor emeritus at the University of Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, May 23, in Medford, Ore., of natural causes. His stepson Cole Behringer said Mr. Fussell died at a long-term care home in Medford, where he eventually relocated with his wife, Harriet Behringer-Fussell, after moving from Philadelphia in 2008.
