Mid-Michigan History: Alma's first brick church
The church, still standing on Alma's North State Street, was the city's first brick church. It was built by the Congregationalists in the 1880s of brick from Bailey's Brick Yard south of Alma.

Baseball drops final road test of the season in the first inning
KALAMAZOO — Michigan baseball coach Rich Maloney returned to his alma mater, Western Michigan, where he was named a third team All-American at shortstop and inducted into the university’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004. “This place is a special place for me,” Maloney said. “I had a great experience here, met my wife here — a lot of great memories.” read more

GVSU women's soccer hires Alma assistant Shaylin Mannino as goalkeeping coach
The Grand Valley State University women's soccer team has hired a new goalkeeping coach, head coach Dave DiIanni announced Tusday. Former Alma College assistant and Central Michigan University standout Shaylin Mannino joins the Lakers after former assistant coach Shannon Neely took at similar position at Northwestern.

Maloney parts ways with Michigan baseball program
In a press release on Tuesday, it was announced that Michigan baseball coach Rich Maloney will not be returning to the program. He departs after 10 years with varied levels of success, but coaching the team through two straight losing seasons has been an area of recent concern, which is why his contract will not be extended after it expires on June 30. read more
