Massachusetts senators have passed a budget amendment that would keep a state psychiatric hospital in Taunton open, despite efforts by the House of Representatives and Gov. Deval Patrick to close the facility.

Providence man arrested after chase in Taunton

A Providence man was arrested after leading police on a chase from Rhode Island to Taunton, according to Massachusetts State Police. Ignacio Abreu, 30, was arrested on outstanding warrants for narcotics offenses. He will also face additional charges in connection with the pursuit and hitting a Cranston, R.I., police cruiser.

Mashpee Wampanoag and city of Taunton reach casino agreement that promises $33m in upfront payments

The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe today agreed to pay the city of Taunton $33 million in upfront costs and also promised to pay the city $13 million a year once - and if -- the tribe builds and opens its proposed $500 million resort casino in the Southeastern Massachusetts city. The agreement was announced in a press release from the tribe’s chairman, Cedric Cromwell, and Taunton Mayor Thomas Hoye.
