State trooper consolidation raising questions from Connecticut legislators

SOUTHBURY – There’s a new cop on the job at the Troop A barracks off busy Interstate I-84: They call him Trooper Smurf. Trooper Smurf arrived May 17, and he just got a makeover today. Now complete with a camera, it appears Trooper Smurf – aka emergency call box – will be the new face of the state police during certain hours.

Southbury students win history awards

SOUTHBURY -- Two Pomperaug High School students won awards in the Connecticut State History Day Contest. Timothy Cohn won first place in the exhibits category for his project "Radium Girls: Tragedy Leading to Industrial Reform."

State police bestow awards for area service

SOUTHBURY -- Four state troopers from Troop A in Southbury and a New Fairfield police officer received awards May 11 for service in the Danbury area. The awards were presented at the Connecticut State Police Training Academy in Meriden.

Southbury cystic fibrosis walk set

Last year's inaugural walk had 140 walkers and raised more than $34,000 to support lifesaving cystic fibrosis research, education and care. The local effort is part of the Connecticut Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation 's national walk, Great Strides, the largest CFF fundraiser.
